The course is taught through lectures, histopathology and autopsy practices. Attendance at lectures is not compulsory but strongly recommended to develop a modern approach and to prepare for the exam successfully. Regular participation in practices (autopsy, histology) is a prerequisite for passing the exam. A total of 2 unverified absences are allowed (this is a course, so NOT a separate 2 autopsy and 2 histology absences). Practice attendance registration is done using an electronic filing system. The presence can be tracked online by all students (and teachers) in the Neptun system. The proof of absence (medical, etc.) must be submitted to the Secretariat.

It is possible to make up for an absences from the weekly practice, with the prior permission of the tutor. The institute summarize the absences during the 14th educational week. The semester meeting will be available for consultation / complaint at a pre-announced time in week 14. The Institute has 3 working days to enter the exam grades! In case of a voluntary improving of an exam, all parts of the exam (written, practical, theoretical) must be repeated. The student is obliged to present the student's legal status and identity document for the exam. Exams

Autopsy demonstration:

Within Pathology I, there is one mid-semester autopsy exam (demo) on pathoanatomical skills and knowledge (avaible at https://elearning.med.unideb.hu/).

The date of the exam is at the 6th or 7th week of the semester, during autpsy practice. The students are examined by the own tutor, results can be pass or fail. In case of failure or abcence the exam can be repeated after the following practice. The repeated failure cases will be examined by an independent examiner at a predetermined time.

End semester exams:

• Pathology I Course is completed by an end-semester exam, Pathology II Course is completed by a final exam.
• Preparation for the exam is done using the textbook, lecture hand-outs available online and material taught during practices.
• Parts of the exam:
• Autopsy practical exam (autopsy room)
• Written pathology test (online)
• Histology (online)
• Pathology oral examination (titles)

Pathology test and practical exams:

• Written and practical exams can be taken in the last two weeks of the term: online pathology test: week 13, online histology exam: week 14, autopsy exam: week 14.
• The students will receive an official, personalized notification of the dates of both online (written) exams via NEPTUN system.
• The autopsy practice exam is taken during the last autopsy practice.
• The autopsy examination focuses on the pathoanatomical knowledge, oral demonstration and differential diagnosis of organ preparations present in the autopsy room.
• During the online pathology test, the students need to answer a list of questions from the accessible question bank randomly generated by a computer software. The test is taken place in the classroom on the 3rd floor.
• During histology exam, students need to answer questions about the digital slides taught during practices.
• The test is completed if the student answers at least 85% of the questions correctly. The result is calculated and reported by the software.
• In case of an unsuccessful test, histology or autopsy examination, it must be completed at 7.45 am in the exam period before the A (possibly B or C) oral exam, otherwise the oral part cannot be started.
• Failure of a written test or practical exam done during the exam period is considered insufficient exam performance.
• Examination order: written exams, practical exam (if necessary), theoretical exam
• The examination shall be repeated from the part which failed.

Oral (theoretical) examination

• During the oral examination students need to describe the titles, available at the e-learning interface.
• The student can apply for the oral exam in the NEPTUN system after opening the exam dates.
• Regarding the oral exam dates, the student should try to schedule the A exam for the first 4 exam weeks.
• B and C exam dates will be announced in proportion to the failed A exam.
• If the A exam fails, the student can only apply for the B chance minimum 5 working days later (according to Rules).
• Examination locations: Library, Conference room, Histology room, Aspiration Cytology floor, in some cases doctors’ offices.
• Students are assigned to examiners in a random fashion.
• The list of examinations (where to take the oral exam) will be posted on the first floor information board at 8:00 am on the day of the exam.

• Students may be referred to the same examiner several times, but for the last chance (C examination), an independent presidential examiner presence shall be ensured.

Dental students take the same exam in the first semester, in the second semester the material (slides, titles) is different.
