Patient care is a profession. The learning process begins at the first few weeks of university education, but is a unique "course" that encourages lifelong learning. Medicine is constantly evolving. New discoveries and technologies are expanding our capabilities rapidly, and new paradigms are emerging. We believe, in order to educate the future doctors and health professionals we also need to improve ourselves continuously. The knowledge of the pathological background of the diseases is required for any patient care activity. To deliver this knowledge is an important task of our institute.
Education at the University's Faculty of General Medicine, Dentistry, Health and Public Health is based on a scientifically sound curriculum that explores pathological mechanisms and medical concepts in increasing "depths." Our institute participates in the training of the third year general medical and dental students, as well as in the theoretical and practical training of pharmacists, physiotherapists and medical diagnostic laboratory analysts. The total number of students in Hungarian-language training program exceeds 300 per semester. Students of all majors / specialties can complete their internship and diploma work in the routine diagnostic departments of our institute.
The curriculum can be acquired from textbooks, lectures, practices and from educational materials published electronically on e-learning interface of the institute. (https://elearning.med.unideb.hu/). All exam requirements are available electronically on the e-learning interface (oral exam titles, slides list, pathology test). The official textbook is the latest edition of Robbins / Kumar, but the subject can be accomplished using the one earlier edition as well.
The education throughout the semester is based on theoretical and case-based practical training, which enables the student to develop clinical skills at the same time. The academic year concludes with a final examination, which besides an oral theoretical examination includes a practical examination in the autopsy room, and a test based on digital histological slides.
Postgraduate training
Among other educational tasks, the Department of Pathology participates in the regional training and supervision of post-graduate pathology training. During the 5 years of the training, the resident pathologist can acquire all the details of the profession under the supervision of local tutors and with the help of courses and internships.
It is also the task of the Pathologist's Panel to provide and organize additional courses and internships for residents of other specialties.
Continuous professional development is based on maintaining pathological knowledge and learning about the latest diagnostic options and techniques. Therefore, pathologists play an increasing role in the training of specialists in other professions throughout credit-related courses.
